Hyaluronic acid improves knee symptoms
We explored how hyaluronic acid (HA) affects knee pain in patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis (KOA). In a study involving 40 participants, we observed improvements in pain and function after evaluating treatment through various scales and measuring cartilage thickness via ultrasound.

Both HA and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) showed positive effects, but there was no significant difference in their effectiveness. Particularly, HA not only improved pain relief but also resulted in increased femoral cartilage thickness over six months.

We reviewed various intra-articular hyaluronic acid (IA-HA) products and their effects on knee osteoarthritis. This systematic analysis highlighted significant differences in the molecular size and source of these products, suggesting that high molecular weight (HMW) IA-HAs are more effective at reducing knee pain compared to low molecular weight (LMW) options.

However, we should note that some HMW products linked to avian sources or those that are cross-linked may lead to increased inflammation. So, while HMW IA-HA shows promise, careful consideration of product characteristics is essential for effective treatment.
